The current iteration of neurosurgery services in University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) started in 2001 when Professor Vickneswaran Mathaneswaran started services here. Since then, the Division of Neurosurgery has gone from strength to strength, building on the code of patient centred excellence in neurosurgical services. This code is based on developing human resources (Neurosurgeons and support staff) and facilities (dedicated Neuro ICU, Operating theatres) and advanced technologies (Endoscopic surgery, Image guided Brain suites, intra operative imaging and neurophysiology monitoring).
